Holiday Wishes from the Superintendent

I’m proud to work with so many great people who dedicate their professional lives, and much of their personal lives, to building our community’s future by serving children directly and indirectly both in our schools and in support of our schools.  I express my appreciation for all you do to make “Pittsylvania County Schools A Great Place to Learn and Work!”  I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Across the division, schools have held holiday choral, band and drama performances in the last few weeks.  From high school to elementary students, the fine arts are alive and well in Pittsylvania County Schools thanks to our staff.  Hundreds of parents, grandparents, friends, teachers and administrators have packed into auditoriums to see our students perform.

Grinch Days:

In efforts to promote reading, Southside Elementary School's kindergarten team celebrated Grinch Day. Teachers and students dressed up as characters from the book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss. Fraternal Order of Eagles Donate Christmas Gifts to Students:

The Fraternal Order of Eagles - Piedmont Aerie 4420 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles - Piedmont Aerie 4420 Eagle Riders recently donated Christmas gifts to 43 Pittsylvania County Schools' students.  The large gift bags and boxes contained new winter clothing and toys (games, dolls, books, art supplies, bicycles, scooters, sports equipment, etc.) to help make a child's Christmas special. It is truly a blessing what they bring to our children and their families during this holiday season.   We greatly appreciate their service, generosity and dedication to Pittsylvania County Schools.

Operation Warm “More Than Just a Coat”

Southside Elementary School was chosen by Operation Warm "More Than Just a Coat" along with Unique Industries to supply coats to all students. Over 50 volunteers took time out of their busy schedules to greet Southside students with smiles and open arms. Each student was properly sized and fitted for coats in preparation for winter. Southside students experienced what "More Than Just a Coat" truly stood for. Each volunteer took the time to get to know each child while allowing them to pick their favorite color coat. Southside Elementary students and staff were thankful for these generous organizations for showing that love and goodwill still exists in the community.
