EOW Transport Dept.

Employee of the Week: James Hardy
February 5 - February 9, 2024

The Transportation Department is pleased to recognize Mr. James Hardy as Pittsylvania County Schools' Employee of The Week. Mr. Hardy, a life-long resident of the Gretna area, worked as a logger for Gibson Lumber Company before joining the bus shop’s staff as a mechanic in 1992. In addition to helping keep the division’s buses and other vehicles on the road, Mr. Hardy also specializes in maintaining and repairing the school system’s tractors and other lawn and turf-care equipment. Most of all, however, he enjoys interacting with everyone. Mr. Hardy noted, “My favorite part of working in the Transportation Department is all the guys in the shop. We all get along well.”

When not under the hood of a C2, Freightliner, or International, Mr. Hardy enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, and farming. Although this father and stepfather of three prefers staying close to the farm, he occasionally takes a break from his Pittsville home to vacation at the beach with his wife, Lisa, who is also employed by the Transportation Department as a bus driver at Tunstall High School.
